Starting From Zero was a kind of mantra of the Bauhaus in Weimar. The pointless destruction of the first world war left Germany adrift and needing new myths, concepts, ideas, and importantly art. Paul Klee was a professor from January 1921 to April 1931 at the fabled Bauhaus where he distinguished himself and developed a group of ardent followers. Many of the artists at the Bauhaus described the concept of starting from zero as something that emboldened them, drive them to create.

The song is an instrumental overture with elements of Bittersweet Place and Where the Monsters Abound. Imagine an orchestra tuning and warming up and settling on a piano motif. Except it features sequencer, loops and perhaps eight different guitar tracks imitating strings, pipe organ and a basic watery rhythm track.
